Fire Blanket Usage
A Fire Blanket is a safety device designed to extinguish small fires. It consists of a sheet of fire retardent material which is placed over a fire in order to smother it.
Small Fire Blankets used in kitchens and around the home are usually manufactured from fibreglass and folded into a container for ease of storage. They are helpful in high temperatures and function by stopping oxygen in the air from reaching the fire.
Larger Fire Blankets, often manufactured from retardent treated wool, are available for factories and laboratories. They are mounted in a vertical quick release container so that they can easily be pulled out and wrapped around a person or oject that in on fire.
Operation
The
Fire Blanket has two pull down tails protruding underneath. These cords should be held in each hand and pulled simultaneously removing the blanket from the container. The Fire Blanket should then be tightly wrapped around or thrown over the fire. The tails are located near the top of the Fire Blanket which allows the top lip of the Fire Blanket to fold back over the users hands protecting them from the fire.
